I remember watching Carr Hall, where I would spend a lot of time, being built Freshman year – actually had to write a paper about it for G 1!
Good memories of dorm mates, classmates, lab mates and summer research work at Carr. I was waiting to get the last of my students out of Organic lab one afternoon when the famous North East power outage happened in Nov. ‘65. I immediately looked over at the doorway as I thought someone had leaned against the light switch!
As a Chem major I had to take Physics – met and married my lab assistant!
Education after Allegheny
We married in August of ‘67 and immediately moved to Seattle to attend graduate school at the University of Washington where I completed a Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry while Curt got his in Low Temperature Physics.
As I mentioned, we got married in August after graduation, so like many of us, we’ll celebrate another 50th very soon!
Where we’ve lived
After 5 years in Seattle, we mostly lived in New Jersey (with brief stints elsewhere) until we retired and moved to my childhood home near Spartansburg (PA) in 2001.
I was involved in many volunteer positions, one of which lead to my career as Product Sales Manager for the Rolling Hills Girl Scout Council for 14 years. I was the staff person who coordinated the Girl Scout cookie sales and Nut sales for ~ 500 troops in our council.
Our children / grandchildren
Our daughter Lynn writes and performs music programs for children, and has recorded several CDs. Last year she sold her home in Nashville since she was on the road so much, so now she calls our place home. Our son Dave, a computer programmer, lives in Sterling, VA with his wife Liz and our two grandsons: Fred,7, and Charlie, 3 1/2. I think Fred will definitely be a scientist as his heroes are Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson. He thinks First Grade should be teaching him about Tesla coils.
I retired in 2000 so as to get our house in NJ ready to sell, and we moved to PA in April of 2001. In addition to visiting family, we have traveled some – Alaska in 2005 and Ireland in 2008. We just returned (in March) from a Road Scholar trip through the Southwest Canyonlands are – a fabulous trip. We recommend it!
Current activities / hobbies
I am busy with work at my church and a local church-based ministry, Love INC and the local library. We have a good sized garden and I still enjoy reading, and some knitting when I have time.
