I remember working with the Brooks Hall student kitchen crew…Wayne Wolfram, who received the dirty dishes tray and often put a scoop of mashed potatoes in my hand after I handed him the silverware,( I thought it was funny; he has recently apologised), and Steve Scott and Jim Zeeb who ran the dishwasher and competed for who could load it the fastest. I was one of the “deferred matriculants” who came to Allegheny in January when the college found rooms for us in the Brooks Hall basement. It was also special attending with my cousin, Jeanne Smith, class of ‘66 and someone I admire still.
Education after Allegheny
I attended the University of Oregon for Masters in English and Education and received certification in Learning Disabilities.
Married Craig Toedtman (Class of ‘66) and have 2 children, Caroline and James (Jamie)
Where I’ve lived
We’ve lived in Berea and Hudson, Ohio and have been in Blue Bell, Pa. (Philadelphia suburb) for 35 years. We also spend time in the winter now in our place in Tucson, AZ.
I recently finished 30 fulfilling years at The William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia (the oldest Quaker School in the world) as the Upper School Learning Specialist and continue with private academic coaching.
Our children / grandchildren
Our daughter, Caroline and husband Rich live nearby and have 3 children; Connor 16, Ella 14 and Gracen, 11. Our son, James (Jamie) and his wife, Kim, live in the Princeton area and also have 3 children; Madden 11, Sylvia, 9 and Zachary, 7. Spending time watching all of them in their extra curricular activities is a delight but we know we risk envy from friends whose families are not in the area, so we don’t talk about ours very often.
I am enjoying volunteer teaching and consulting at 2 schools; Imago Dei Middle School in Tucson, AZ and St. James Middle School in Philadelphia, two very special, funded private schools for under resourced students who qualify for aid. Craig is still self employed but is enjoying a little more flexibility of time.We also have been involved in our historic church and the Episcopal Diocese of Philadelphia.
Current activities / hobbies
Helping to plan our 50th year college reunion, traveling to special places, mostly in Europe connected to Craig”s relocation business, keeping up with grandchildren’s competitions, and working out to keep as fit as possible!
